FAQs
What is fibre internet and how is it different from LTE or ADSL?
- Fibre internet uses fibre-optic cables to transmit data at high speeds. It’s faster, more stable, and less affected by weather or distance than LTE or ADSL.
- LTE uses mobile networks (like your phone) and can become slow if the tower is congested.
- ADSL uses old copper telephone lines and is generally much slower than fibre.
Why should I switch to fibre internet?
- Fast, stable speeds for streaming, video calls, and gaming
- No buffering or lag during peak hours
- More affordable long-term with consistent pricing
- Ideal for homes with multiple users and devices
How do I know if PluxNet Fibre is available in my area?
Visit the PluxNet website or contact our support team. Provide your address or location, and we’ll confirm if fibre is available or coming soon.
What do I need to get started with PluxNet Fibre?
- Contact our PluxNet support team on 010 313 0050 or WhatsApp us on 083 704 6634
- A PluxNet sales agent will call you to guide you through the sign-up process
- Once coverage is confirmed, we’ll schedule your installation
- We’ll supply the Wi-Fi router and ensure everything is set up and ready to use
Do I need a telephone line for fibre internet?
No, fibre does not use telephone lines. It runs on its own high-speed fibre-optic cable.
How long does installation take?
Installation typically takes 7 to 14 days. It may take a few days to schedule, depending on availability.
Can I use my existing Wi-Fi router?
No, PluxNet supplies the Wi-Fi router to all clients. This allows us to manage your network effectively, offer better support, and ensure optimal performance and security.
What speed do I need for streaming or working from home?
- 10–20 Mbps: Basic streaming, browsing, Zoom calls
- 20–50 Mbps: HD streaming, multiple users
- 50+ Mbps: 4K streaming, gaming, work-from-home, families with many devices
Is fibre affected by load shedding?
Fibre lines are not affected by load shedding, but your Wi-Fi router and ONT (Optical Network Terminal) need electricity. Use a UPS or backup power to stay connected during outages.
What happens if I want to switch to PluxNet Fibre from another provider?
- We help you with the migration process
- You may need to cancel your current contract
- You can keep your existing fibre infrastructure (like Vumatel, Openserve, etc.) if compatible
- Our team ensures a smooth handover with minimal downtime
How do I know which package is suitable for me and my household?
Consider the following first:
- Number of users
- Types of activities (streaming, gaming, work)
- Devices connected at the same time
- Chat with our team or use the online package recommender to find the best fit for your home.
